Tobias has announced that he has retired from baseball Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects.com reports.
Tobias was drafted in 2015 and progressed all the way to Triple-A Pawtucket in 2019. He has now decided to step away from the game.

Red Sox's Josh Tobias: Promoted to Double-A
Tobias was promoted Sunday from High-A Salem to Double-A Portland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Acquired from the Phillies in the Clay Buchholz deal during the offseason, Tobias has already made a quick splash with his new organization. After Tobias slashed an impressive .345/.412/.494 over 97 plate appearances with Salem, the Red Sox determined the 24-year-old had little left to prove in the Carolina League. If Tobias is able to hold his own in the high minors over the remainder of the season, he could potentially work his way to the big leagues in 2018.

Red Sox's Josh Tobias: Dealt to Red Sox
Tobias was traded to the Red Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Clay Buchholz, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
A tenth-round draft pick back in 2015, Tobias certainly doesn't have anywhere near the prospect shine of other hitters in the rebuilt Phillies system, but his hitting stats certainly stood out during his time with Low-A Lakewood in 2016. The 24-year-old pieced together an .819 OPS thanks to 34 extra-base hits and a 7.5 percent walk rate. He experienced some struggles upon a promotion to High-A Clearwater in July, but a quick progression through the minor leagues is not out of the question if he continues to adapt to the more advanced pitchers in the minors.

Phillies' Josh Tobias: Promoted to High-A Clearwater
Tobias was promoted to High-A Clearwater on Wednesday.
Tobias, 23, hit .304/.376/.443 with seven home runs, 24 doubles and six stolen bases in 368 at-bats for Low-A Lakewood this season. He takes over second base for Clearwater after Scott Kingery, a fellow 2015 draft selection, moved up to Double-A Reading earlier in the week.

Phillies' Josh Tobias: Earns April honors
Tobias was named the Phillies' minor league hitter of the month Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Tobias, 23, hit .347/.462/.560 with two home runs for Low-A Lakewood in April and hasn't slowed down in his first four games this month. It is likely the Phillies will move him up a level soon.
