Dodgers' Griff McGarry: Traded to Dodgers
The Dodgers acquired McGarry from the Phillies on Tuesday in exchange for international bonus pool money.
McGarry was returned to the Phillies after failing to make the Nationals' roster as a Rule 5 pick, and he's now on the move again. The 26-year-old has a big arm but has really struggled with command and control, having posted a career walk rate of 15.9 percent. The Dodgers will try to coax more out of him.

Phillies' Griff McGarry: Back with Philly
McGarry cleared waivers and was returned to the Phillies and assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The 26-year-old righty was selected by the Nationals during the Rule 5 Draft in December but was designated for assignment over the weekend. McGarry will now rejoin the organization that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. He spent most of last year at the Double-A level and had a 3.25 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 103:45 K:BB over 72 innings.

Nationals' Griff McGarry: DFA'd by Washington
The Nationals designated McGarry for assignment Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
The right-hander was selected by the Nationals during the Rule 5 Draft in December, but the club won't keep him on the big-league roster. If he clears waivers, McGarry will be offered back to the Phillies, with whom he spent most of 2025 at Double-A Reading.

Nationals' Griff McGarry: Stolen by division rival
The Nationals selected McGarry with the third pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.
McGarry has been a known prospect for several years due to his nasty stuff, but he has never thrown enough strikes as a starter. The 26-year-old righty logged a 3.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 124 strikeouts and 49 walks in 83.2 innings in 2025, primarily at Double-A. McGarry could be a late-inning weapon thanks to a devastating fastball/sweeper combination, but he'd need to improve his command to work in high-leverage spots.

Phillies' Griff McGarry: Returns from IL
Triple-A Lehigh Valley reinstated McGarry (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Friday.
McGarry had been on the shelf since May 24 with the unspecified injury, but he was cleared to rejoin Lehigh Valley coming out of the All-Star break after he struck out two over a scoreless inning in his lone rehab appearance July 13 with High-A Jersey Shore. Over his 14 relief appearances with Lehigh Valley on the season, McGarry has posted a 3.57 ERA and 25:15 K:BB across 17.2 innings.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley placed McGarry on its 7-day injured list May 24 with an unspecified injury.
McGarry's last appearance came May 18 against Norfolk, when he walked four batters and recorded just three outs. The injury could have played a part in his poor form in that outing, though poor control has been a hallmark of McGarry's statistical profile through every stop of the minors. The 24-year-old reliever has turned in a 3.57 ERA but has walked 15 batters over 17.2 innings at Lehigh Valley this season.

Phillies' Griff McGarry: Moving to bullpen at Triple-A
The Phillies reassigned McGarry to minor-league camp Monday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Manager Rob Thomson also noted that McGarry will be used as a reliever this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 24-year-old holds a career 34.6 percent strikeout rate and 15.9 percent walk rate during his time in the minors while being used mostly as a starter, so a move to relief doesn't come as much of a surprise. Thomson added that the move isn't necessarily permanent.

The Phillies promoted McGarry to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
After putting up a 3.13 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 54.2 innings across 13 starts with Double-A Reading, McGarry will head to Triple-A for the second time in his career. The 24-year-old righty made seven appearances out of the bullpen for Lehigh Valley toward the end of last season and allowed eight runs over eight innings. McGarry will be in the rotation at Triple-A this time around, putting him one step closer to making his big-league debut.

McGarry (side) struck out two and allowed one run on one hit and one walk in two innings in his first start of the season for Double-A Reading.
The 23-year-old righty made one rehab appearance, striking out two in one inning for Single-A Clearwater earlier this month. Now that he is fully healthy after suffering an oblique injury in spring training, McGarry will set his sights on showcasing starter-level command and control after walking 53 batters in 87.1 innings last season.

McGarry has resided on Double-A Reading's 7-day injured list all season due to side tightness, so the Phillies will likely have him ramp up slowly in the lower minors over the course of another rehab start or two before he's deemed ready for Eastern League action. McGarry is the third member of a group of young righties knocking on the door for the Phillies, though his stock isn't as high as that of Andrew Painter or Mick Abel. McGarry's best chance of making an impact at the big-league level this season may come as a reliever, though the Phillies could prefer to keep him in the minors in an effort to improve his control to the point that he can start. Phillies' Griff McGarry: Advances to Triple-A
The Phillies promoted McGarry from Double-A Reading to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
McGarry, a fifth-round selection in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, is being developed as a starter, but he recently transitioned into a bullpen role at Reading in anticipation of potentially making his big-league debut later in September or early October as a reliever. Before Philadelphia entertains the idea of him making his MLB debut in 2022, the organization will first see how McGarry during his first taste of Triple-A. He concludes his time at Reading with a 2.20 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB over 32.2 innings.

Phillies' Griff McGarry: Back in action at Double-A
McGarry (finger) struck out four over six scoreless innings in his return from Double-A Reading's 7-day injured list Saturday. He scattered two hits, one walk and a hit batsmen in the 65-pitch start.
McGarry was sharp in his first start for Reading since July 6 after he had been shut down shortly before the All-Star break due to a blister. The 23-year-old righty received his promotion to Double-A earlier this month after turning in a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 82:24 K:BB across 46.2 innings at High-A Jersey Shore to begin the season.
