Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Will start season in bullpen
Gaddis has been informed he's made the Opening Day roster for the Guardians, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Gaddis was roughed up for 15 runs in just 7.1 innings last year in two appearances -- good for an 18.41 ERA -- but he has pitched well in the Cactus League with a 2.77 ERA over 13 innings with a 17:3 K:BB and even 1.00 WHIP. He'll likely be a multi-inning option for low-leverage situations to begin 2023.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Sent to Columbus
Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Gaddis made his second major-league start Thursday against the Astros but gave up seven runs in four innings. He's now given up 15 runs in 7.1 innings over two appearances with the Guardians and will head back to the minors after Carlos Vargas was recalled Friday.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Serves up five homers
Gaddis (0-2) allowed seven earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three across four innings to take the loss Thursday against the White Sox.
Gaddis was called up to make his second start in the majors, but he served up five homers in the disastrous appearance. He's pitched well with Triple-A Columbus this season, maintaining a 3.93 ERA with a 43:15 K:BB across 34.1 innings. However, Gaddis has now surrendered seven home runs across his first 7.1 frames in the majors. Thursday's appearance was likely just a spot start, and the results didn't help his case to stick with Cleveland in the short term.

Gaddis was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
It was announced Wednesday that Gaddis would be called up to start the following day, and the Guardians made the move official Thursday morning. Gaddis was tagged for eight earned runs over 3.1 innings in his August 5 big-league debut, but he was sharp in his last two starts with Columbus, posting a 2.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB over 11.2 innings.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Getting spot start Thursday
Gaddis is expected to be called up from Triple-A Columbus to start Thursday versus the White Sox, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Gaddis is set to join the rotation for what will likely just be a spot start after Triston McKenzie was pushed back a day in the pitching schedule to Friday's series opener with the Twins. The rookie has previously made one start with the Guardians on Aug. 6, surrendering eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over 3.1 innings against Houston.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Pounded in debut
Gaddis (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Guardians fell 9-3 to the Astros, coughing up eight runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out two.
Making his big-league debut, Gaddis tossed 45 of 79 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. He pitched adequately against everyone except Trey Mancini. Unfortunately, the former Oriole tagged him for two homers in two at-bats, with the second blast being a grand slam. The 24-year-old right-hander might get another start or two for Cleveland due a lack of currently healthy alternatives, but with Cody Morris (shoulder) having shifted his rehab to Triple-A this week and Aaron Civale (wrist) ready to begin his own rehab assignment, Gaddis' window for establishing himself in the rotation could close quickly.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Sent back to Triple-A
Gaddis was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.
Gaddis' contract was selected ahead of his big-league debut Friday against the Astros, but the day didn't go nearly as well as he would have hoped. He lasted just 3.1 innings and left after giving up eight runs. He'll return to the minors for now but could get another opportunity next time the Guardians need a spot starter. Reliever Jake Jewell had his contract selected to take Gaddis' place on the roster.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Contract selected for MLB debut
Gaddis had his contract selected by Cleveland and is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Astros.
The 24-year-old was promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus in July and will now make his way to the majors for the first time. Gaddis has a 4.07 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 114:31 K:BB over 86.1 innings between Akron and Columbus this season. If the right-hander pitches well in his debut he could make another turn or two through the rotation, depending when Aaron Civale (wrist) is able to return from the injured list.

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Set to start Friday
Gaddis will be promoted from Triple-A Columbus to start Friday's game against the Astros, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Gaddis has posted a 4.07 ERA with a 114:31 K:BB across 86.1 total innings between Double-A Akron and Columbus this season. He doesn't have much prospect pedigree but has consistently missed bats at every level of the minors. Gaddis will draw a tough matchup in his big-league debut, but he could have the chance to stick in the rotation until Aaron Civale (wrist) is ready to return.
