Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Out indefinitely with hand injury
Anthony will be removed from Boston's wild-card series roster after an MRI showed an aggravation of his previous right hand injury, as well as multiple new strains, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Anthony was injured on a check-swing and had to be removed from Tuesday's Game 1 loss to the Yankees. He drove back to Boston after the contest for imaging, which revealed the bad news. Anthony is now ineligible to play before the ALCS, and there's a good chance he is done for the rest of the postseason, regardless of how far the Red Sox advance. Manager Chad Tracy said that Anthony Seigler and Curtis Mead (hand) are the top candidates to take Anthony's spot on the roster.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Absent from Game 2 lineup
Anthony (hand) is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the wild-card series versus the Yankees.
Anthony exited Game 1 on Tuesday after experiencing soreness in his right hand, which is the same hand that was injured and caused him to miss a good portion of the regular season. While Anthony remains on the roster for now, he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Nate Eaton will play left field, and Jahmai Jones will be the designated hitter and leadoff man for the Red Sox.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Roster status undecided
The Red Sox are still "assessing the situation" when it comes to whether they will replace Anthony (hand) on their wild-card series roster, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Anthony was forced to depart Game 1 on Tuesday due to right hand discomfort. It's the same hand that was injured and caused him to miss a large chunk of the regular season, but it's unclear at this point how significant of a setback it is. If Anthony is removed from the roster, he would be ineligible to return until the ALCS (should the Red Sox make it).

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Exits with hand injury
Anthony was removed from Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Yankees on Tuesday due to a right hand injury, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Anthony's hand reportedly began bothering him after a check swing in the third inning, leading to his eventual removal in the sixth. The 22-year-old outfielder missed nearly four months in the regular season due to an injury in the same hand, though it's unclear whether his latest injury will force him to miss time. If he ends up needing to come off the Red Sox's wild-card roster, he would be ineligible to play again until the ALCS.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Two hits in return
Anthony went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 16-1 loss to the Yankees.

Anthony, who led off for the Red Sox, is expected to serve as their primary DH down the stretch. He's slashing .239/.358/.336 with one homer, 12 runs scored, five RBI and two steals across 134 plate appearances this year.

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Likely to be reinstated Sunday
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said after Saturday's 9-2 loss to the Yankees that both Anthony (finger) and Trevor Story (sports hernia) will likely be reinstated from the injured list Sunday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Anthony and Story are both joining the Red Sox in the Bronx ahead of Sunday's series finale. There are corresponding moves that need to be made, but it looks like Boston is getting significant upgrades right before the calendar turns to September for the final weeks of the regular season. Anthony figures to see the majority of his playing time as the Red Sox's designated hitter in the absence of Masataka Yoshida (hamstring), though Anthony should also see a few reps in the outfield.
