With the first pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett out of UNLV.

From our man on the scene:

It was a surprise pick by the Cavaliers, who had been rumored to be taking Nerlens Noel, Alex Len, and even Victor Oladipo at various times leading up to the draft. He's the first Canadian player to be taken with the No. 1 overall selection in the NBA. Bennett is a big-time scoring prospect, but doesn't exactly have the cachet of someone you'd expect taken with the top pick. Bennett has a really good face-up game with range out to the 3-point line.

The Cavaliers tried to deal the top pick in the draft throughout the past week, reportedly offering it to the Portland Trail Blazers with the 19th pick in exchange for LaMarcus Aldridge, and to the Minnesota Timberwolves with Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters in exchange for Kevin Love. However, they couldn't get a team to bite on taking the top pick in what is perceived to be a weak draft class for potential All-Stars and franchise players.

Instead, they opted to keep the pick and not just sell it off below their asking price. Bennett will add to the scoring punch of Kyrie Irving and maybe Dion Waiters if he can get his game going after an up-and-down rookie season. Bennett is the second No. 1 overall pick for the Cavs in the past three drafts and is added to a very young team loaded with relatively inexperienced NBA players.

But the Cavs continue to stockpile assets and will have the flexibility moving forward to develop these young guys or move them down the road for a big veteran to add to Irving's stardom.
