DeMarco Murray leaves Eagles practice early with hamstring injury
DeMarco Murray is scheduled to have an MRI done after leaving practice early on Wednesday.
The 2015 season is slowly going from bad to worse for DeMarco Murray.
The Eagles announced on Wednesday that Murray had to leave practice early because of a hamstring injury. The team also canceled Murray's previously scheduled media appearance that was supposed to take place after practice.
Philadelphia isn't sure how severe the injury is, but the Eagles should find out soon with Murray scheduled to undergo an MRI, according to ESPN.com. ESPN also added that although Murray's injury isn't believed to be serious, his status for this Sunday's game is questionable.
Even if Murray only tweaked his hamstring, that's still bad news for a player who has struggled through the first two weeks of the season.
The former Cowboys running back was expected to thrive in Chip Kelly's offense, but instead Murray has only ran for 11 yards in two weeks.
If Murray has to miss any time, that means backup Ryan Mathews would likely get the start against the Jets on Sunday and Darren Sproles would see even more playing time than usual.
Eagles center Jason Kelce thinks the team will be fine, no matter who is in the backfield.
"DeMarco's a great player," Kelce said. "But I think we also have two other great backs who can get the job done. Bottom line is whoever is carrying the ball behind us, we have to do a better job up front blocking. As long as we can take care of the line of scrimmage and do what we need to do, we'll make hay in the run game."
