It doesn’t matter whether he gets your vote for the greatest Super Bowl QB performance, Doug Williams will always be a part of history as the first African-American quarterback to start in a Super Bowl.

Williams had a banging performance in Super Bowl XXII. He threw for 340 yards, four touchdowns, had a 62.1 completion percentage and grabbed the MVP award. To this day, the Washington Redskins' 42-10 victory over the Broncos is still talked about in The District.

According to NFL.com, Williams didn’t even practice the day before the game because he had to get a root canal. Due to the pain, he lost sleep that night and still took the field the next day.

NFL Monday QB panelist Steve Beuerlein had this to say about Williams’ performance: “Trailing 10-0 to John Elway and the Denver Broncos, Williams, the first African-American quarterback to ever start in a Super Bowl, exploded with four-second quarter touchdown passes [NFL record] to take control of the game! Williams completed one of the most incredible NFL seasons in spectacular fashion by showering the Broncos with one big play after another on his way to the Super Bowl MVP! Truly one of the top Super Bowl performances ever!”
