Jets bench Geno Smith, insert Matt Simms to start 2nd half
Jets quarterback Geno Smith is done for the day.
In the past two games, Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith has been horrendous, piling up passer ratings of 10.1 two weeks ago and 22.3 in Week 12. After the Jets accumulated two first downs, 39 total yards and zero points in the first half vs. the Dolphins -- with a passer rating of 8.3 (!) -- the coaching staff has seen enough from Smith.
That's why the team benched him after halftime and inserted backup Matt Simms for the start of the third quarter.
Simms emerged from the locker room in a jovial mood, jumping up and down in excitement as the team ran onto the field. On his first series, though, the Jets still went three-and-out.
Thankfully, though, we haven't so far seen any kind of gun simulationfrom the Jets new quarterback.
