NFL Draft: Draft Tracker | Prospect Rankings | Updates | Trades

After soaring up draft boards the last couple of months, former Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher was taken by the Chiefs with the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday in New York City.

It was thought all along that Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel would be the No. 1 pick, but in the past 48 hours the trend of making Fisher No. 1 swung many a mock draft. Now it's resulted in the first MAC player to be taken No. 1 in the NFL Draft.

Fisher (6 feet 8, 305 pounds) wowed scouts with his athleticism in pre-draft workouts, though his play on the field was nothing to scoff at. His alma mater isn't quite as sexy as that of fellow offensive tackles Joeckel or Lane Johnson (Oklahoma), but Fisher was still one of the nation's best at his position, earning third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press.

There is some concern in regards to Fisher's strength, mainly because he didn't often face NFL-caliber pass-rushers while at Central Michigan. Fisher struggled in Senior Bowl practices against big, physical bull-rushers who could get in his pads and push him back, but clearly the Chiefs didn't see that as a major concern.

Still, Fisher has added "good weight" since entering college at just 230 pounds, and his athleticism, technique, and agility figure to serve him well at any offensive line position in the NFL.
