  • Connor Hobbs: Retires from pro hockey

Hobbs has retired from professional hockey, Greg Harder of the Regina Leader-Post reports.

A fifth-round pick of the Capitals in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Hobbs enjoyed success at the minor-pro level before injuries began to derail his development. The 25-year-old posted seven goals and 26 points in 119 AHL games with the Hershey Bears before the Capitals made him a free agent by not tendering a qualifying offer earlier in October.

  • Connor Hobbs: Goes unqualified by Caps

Hobbs did not receive a qualifying offer from the Capitals and will become a UFA on Friday, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports.

Hobbs has struggled since joining AHL Hershey in 2017-18 -- he's recorded 36 points in 119 games with the Capitals' minor-league affiliate. In 2019-20, he was limited to just two points in 16 contests. The 23-year-old blueliner will likely only get a minor-league contract for the upcoming season, but it would be a stretch to call him a prospect at this point.

  • Capitals' Connor Hobbs: Struggling in minors

Hobbs has one goal, one assist and a minus-7 rating through 15 games for AHL Hershey.

Hobbs tore up the Western Hockey League for two straight years -- 198 points through 125 games -- before being brought to Hershey. The Capitals surely hoped their 2015 fifth-round pick would be more developed by now since he's already halfway through his entry-level contract.
