<img src= head coach Bill O'Brien has surprised many with how well he's done on the recruiting trail for the class of 2013 and picked up another nice addition to the Nittany Lions class on Monday when Newtown (Pa.) defensive end Curtis Cothran committed to the program after getting an offer over the weekend.

"It was just everything overall that made me want to commit," Cothran told BlueWhiteIllustrated.com. "The coaching staff just gave me the feeling that I'm going to be dealing with a lot of great people. I know they're going to do everything they can to help me and look out for my best interests.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder also held scholarship offers from schools such as Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers and Purdue. An unofficial visit on Saturday seemed to seal the deal for both Penn State and Cothran, who enjoyed getting to know defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

"Coach Johnson is really important to me. I can already tell by talking to him that he really studied my tape, really looked at my strengths and weaknesses, so he already knows what I need to do to become a better player," Cothran said. "He's a great guy, cares about the things you do off the field as well, so I just know that he's definitely the best fit for me."

The Nittany Lions are up to six commitments in 2013 with Cothran becoming the second along the d-line. Last season as a junior, he racked up 40 tackles and four sacks.
