Carl Edwards: Let go by Cubs

The Cubs released Edwards on Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Manager Craig Counsell confirmed Saturday that Edwards opted out of his minor-league contract. He gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out six over 6.2 innings in spring training. Edwards could latch on with a team looking for veteran bullpen depth.
