Zavala had his contract selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
Zavala will return to the major-league roster after being sent down July 8, posting a .182 average with three home runs, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored over 32 games with Tacoma. The 31-year-old will provide Seattle with an additional depth option behind Cal Raleigh and Mitch Garver at catcher. In a pair of corresponding moves, starting pitcher Luis Castillo (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list and reliever Yimi Garcia (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
