The Royals requested unconditional release waivers for Fuentes on Wednesday.
Fuentes actually fared pretty well in limited major league action this season, hitting .317 in 13 games, but that success didn't carry over in his minor league stints. It may be too late in the season to land somewhere else at this point, but at just 25 years old, Fuentes should attract some interest over the offseason and could open up the 2017 season on a major league roster as a reserve outfielder.
