Engel had his left shoulder cleaned up after the season ended but is expected to be ready for the start of next season, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Engel missed over a month in the second half with a shoulder injury and evidently wasn't fully healthy even after he returned. He should fill a part-time role again next year if he recovers as anticipated, as he's hit .270/.335/.488 in 75 games across the last two seasons.
