Michelle Wie has appendix surgery in Canada after withdrawing from event
A career littered with injuries racked up another one on Sunday
Michelle Wie started the day at the Canadian Pacific Women's Open six strokes back of the lead, and she ended it in the hospital. Wie had to withdraw from the tournament due to pain that wound up necessitating appendix surgery.
"Michelle Wie will have surgery to remove her appendix today at Ottawa Hospital," a spokesperson from IMG said in a statement. "Further details on her condition will be provided when available."
Wie had to withdraw from the U.S. Women's Open because of a neck injury, and she has been plagued with a variety of injuries off and on over the years.
This one, though, seemed to be more of an emergency and unexpected than most. The Canadian Women's Open was being played at Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario. Wie shot 71-68-70 on the week before withdrawing.
Wie has seven top 10s on the season and is currently ranked No. 30 in the world. She's coming off her team's second straight win in the Solheim Cup last week.
