Yankees pitcher Brandon McCarthy tossed a strong start Saturday against the Royals.

McCarthy allowed two runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one during the outing. McCarthy got off to a nice start, tossing two scoreless, hitless innings to open the game. A leadoff single wound up hurting him in the third. With a man on, McCarthy quickly managed two outs. He then gave up two straight singles, including a run-scoring knock to Alex Gordon. McCarthy would recover well, tossing three scoreless innings. He was tagged for another run in the seventh. A leadoff double advanced to third on a groundout, and managed to score on a sac fly. McCarthy was pulled from the game at that point.

With the win, McCarthy improved to 9-14. He’ll take on the Orioles in his next start.
