Jamie MoyerJamie Moyer, who earlier this season became the oldest starting pitcher ever to win a game, has asked for and been granted his release from the Orioles, the team has announced.

Moyer had been pitching for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, where he had a 1.69 ERA after three starts.

As Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweets, the team was hoping that Moyer would make one more start at the Triple-A level before possibly being called up the next time the O's needed a fifth starter. Moyer, however, has decided to move on from the organization for whom he pitched from 1993-95.

If this is the end for the 49-year-old Moyer, then he'll retire with a record of 269-209, an ERA of 4.25 and having pitched in 47 different major-league parks. If he decides he's not done, then it's quite possible he'll find a team willing to give a more direct path back to the highest level.
