Orioles release Jamie Moyer
Veteran lefty Jamie Moyer has asked for and been granted his release from the Orioles.
Jamie Moyer, who earlier this season became the oldest starting pitcher ever to win a game, has asked for and been granted his release from the Orioles, the team has announced.
Moyer had been pitching for the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, where he had a 1.69 ERA after three starts.
As Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweets, the team was hoping that Moyer would make one more start at the Triple-A level before possibly being called up the next time the O's needed a fifth starter. Moyer, however, has decided to move on from the organization for whom he pitched from 1993-95.
If this is the end for the 49-year-old Moyer, then he'll retire with a record of 269-209, an ERA of 4.25 and having pitched in 47 different major-league parks. If he decides he's not done, then it's quite possible he'll find a team willing to give a more direct path back to the highest level.
