Phillies shortstop Cesar Hernandez was a standout player during Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals.
In the first game, he went 2 for 4 with two stolen bases before going 4 for 4 with one stolen base in the second game. All six of his hits were singles.
Hernandez has been on a nice run offensively, batting .365 in his last 14 games (12 starts). His batting average has increased from .217 to .271 in that span.
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin said Hernandez's recent hot streak has to due with increased playing time, as he has emerged as the starting second baseman with Chase Utley on the disabled list.
"One of our concerns in spring training was it would behoove him to play and we'd like to see him play a lot but as a part-time player, I don't think at this stage of his career he's really ready to be a part-time player," Mackanin said, per MLB.com. "But he certainly looks like he's got a chance to be an everyday player. He's learning and gaining confidence."
