Andrea Bargnani out indefinitely with torn elbow ligament
Knicks forward suffers torn ligament vs. Sixers, and the Knicks are running out of frontcourt options.
The injury comes as just another in a long series of disasters for the Knicks, who fell to 15-27 Wednesday night in a loss to the 76ers. The Knicks traded for Bargnani in the preseason to bolster their.... scoring? We guess? They sent Steve Novak, Marcus Camby (who was waived) and second-round picks to Toronto for the Italian stretch four, who has actually played well offensively this season. He's averaging 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds, shooting 44 percent from the field.
The injury further complicates a weak frontcourt. The Knicks are without Amar'e Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin due to ankle injuries, and Tyson Chandler has been banged up for most of the season. This could lead to the Knicks signing some help or turning to Jeremy Tyler and Cole Aldrich for big-minute contributions, which isn't ideal. Then again, Bargnani's defensive numbers have been so bad, it's hard to see how the overall effect could be that traumatic.
Still, it's a valuable scorer for a team that needs all the help it can get. Somehow, this Knicks season continues to get worse.
