Top Tyus Jones News

  • Nuggets' Tyus Jones: Won't start Saturday

Jones won't start Saturday's Game 1 against the Timberwolves.

Jones started Denver's final two regular-season games but will retreat to the second unit for the start of the playoffs. The veteran point guard isn't guaranteed to see the floor Saturday.

  • Nuggets' Tyus Jones: Starting Friday vs. OKC

Jones is in the Nuggets' starting lineup against the Thunder on Friday, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman reports.

Jones has seen little time in Denver's rotation since the beginning of March. However, with seven Nuggets players ruled out Friday -- including Jamal Murray (shoulder) and Christian Braun (ankle) -- Jones will move into the starting lineup for the 11th time this season and first with Denver. Jones' last start took place Feb. 20 as a member of the Mavericks, when he logged 13 points, six assists and one rebound over 26 minutes.

  • Nuggets' Tyus Jones: Back in rotation Wednesday

Jones accumulated two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-1 FT) and two assists over eight minutes during Wednesday's 129-93 win over the Rockets.

Jones moved back into the rotation, albeit for a brief garbage-time appearance. While Jones provides the Nuggets with an additional ball-handling option, it's clear that he is unlikely to play meaningful minutes on most nights. For now, he can be ignored in most fantasy formats.

  • Nuggets' Tyus Jones: Signs on with Denver

Jones agreed to a contract with the Nuggets on Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Jones is expected to eat up minutes behind Jamal Murray in Denver's backcourt. Jones was waived by the Mavs on Friday after being traded twice before the trade deadline. The Duke product has appeared in 56 games this season across stops in Phoenix and Dallas and is averaging 3.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 15.8 minutes per contest.

  • Tyus Jones: To be waived by Dallas

The Mavericks plan to waive Jones ahead of the March 1 waiver deadline, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports Friday.

Jones was traded twice ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline and appeared in eight games (two starts) with Dallas before the club decided to part ways with him. He'll likely draw interest from playoff-contending teams in need of point-guard depth.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Headed to bench

Jones will come off the bench for Sunday's game in Indiana, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Max Christie (ankle) is back and starting after a one-game layoff, so Jones will return to the second unit. Jones' upside is muted in the reserve role, so he can only be viewed as a low-end, assist specialist in deep leagues.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Scores 13 points in start

Jones ended with 13 points (6-10 FG, 1-1 3Pt), one rebound and six assists over 26 minutes during Friday's 122-111 loss to the Timberwolves.

Jones moved back into the starting lineup, scoring in double digits for the fourth time this season, and for the first time as a member of the Mavericks. With Cooper Flagg dealing with a foot injury, Jones moved into an elevated role. Dallas has shown very little trust in any of its point-guard options thus far, meaning Jones could certainly be given a shot at starting, at least for the foreseeable future. If you need assists and steals, perhaps he is worth taking a chance on.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Starting Friday

Jones will start Friday versus the Timberwolves.

This will be Jones' second start in a Mavericks uniform, though he has yet to exceed 20 minutes in any of his three games with Dallas. In his previous start for the Mavericks this season, Jones finished with two points (1-4 FG), two rebounds, three assists, one steal and one turnover in 15 minutes.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Retreating to bench

Jones will be deployed off the bench Thursday against the Lakers, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.

Jones was held in check during Tuesday's start, and he'll shift to a bench role for Thursday's action. Brandon Williams will slot into the starting five as a result.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Enters starting five

Jones is starting Tuesday's game against the Suns, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Jones will draw his first start since Dec. 29 and his first since joining the Mavs via trade. He'll run the floor alongside Cooper Flagg, Max Christie, P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Will play Saturday

Jones (recently traded) is available for Saturday's game against the Spurs.

As expected, Jones will shed his probable tag and make his Mavericks debut Saturday. He'll likely play a meaningful role off the bench behind Cooper Flagg and Max Christie. Jones appeared in 48 regular-season games (eight starts) for the Magic before the trade, during which he averaged 3.0 points and 2.4 assists while shooting 34.2 percent from the field in 15.7 minutes per contest.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Slated to make team debut Saturday

Jones (recently traded) is listed as probable for Saturday's game against the Spurs.

It was a busy week for Jones, who was traded by the Magic to the Hornets on Wednesday before being shipped to the Mavericks one day later. The veteran guard is averaging just 15.7 minutes per game this season, which is his lowest since the 2016-17 season when he was a member of the Timberwolves (12.9). However, Jones has the opportunity to establish himself as the first guard off the Mavericks' bench behind starters Cooper Flagg and Max Christie.

  • Mavericks' Tyus Jones: Headed to Dallas

The Hornets traded Jones to the Mavericks in exchange for Malaki Branham on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The Mavericks have reportedly been eying Jones this season, and they were able to strike a deal on deadline day to bring him into the fold in Dallas. He's an intriguing addition, as Jones will add some playmaking at the guard position that they didn't previously have, and it'll be interesting to see how large a role he's able to carve out, competing for minutes with Ryan Nembhard and Brandon Williams. Jones could be worth a speculative add in deep leagues for those seeking some dimes and steals. He can be considered questionable to make his Mavericks debut Sunday in San Antonio.

  • Hornets' Tyus Jones: Traded to Charlotte

The Magic traded Jones to the Hornets on Wednesday for two second-round picks and cash considerations, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

Per Keith Smith of Spotrac.com, the move puts the Magic under the luxury tax by approximately $1.4 million with two open roster spots. Jones signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Magic in July after spending the prior season with the Suns, but he saw his playing time in Orlando dwindle since starting in seven consecutive games in December. Jones will get a fresh start with the Hornets, where he and fellow newcomer Coby White are expected to provide backcourt depth behind LaMelo Ball and rookie Kon Knueppel.

  • Magic's Tyus Jones: Dishes out nine assists in win

Jones finished with five points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt), nine assists and one rebound across 19 minutes in Wednesday's 133-124 win over the Heat.

After being left out of the rotation in Saturday's 119-105 loss to the Cavaliers, Jones has since reclaimed a spot on the Magic's second unit. He handled an 18-minute workload in Monday's loss to Cleveland and saw similar playing time Wednesday on his way to finishing as Orlando's leading assist man. With Franz Wagner experienced renewed soreness in his left ankle and looking likely to miss additional time, Jones could have some staying power in the rotation for the time being. However, Jones will be a prime candidate to see his playing time get cut dramatically once Wagner returns and Orlando is back to full strength.

  • Magic's Tyus Jones: Left out of rotation Saturday

Jones (coach's decision) went unused off the bench in Saturday's 119-105 loss to the Cavaliers.

Jones had already played fewer than 20 minutes in each of Orlando's last six games, and with the Magic getting another point guard in Jalen Suggs (knee) back from an eight-game absence and handing him 24 minutes in his return, Jones ended up being the odd man out of the rotation. Orlando will eventually get Franz Wagner (ankle) back in the mix as well, so Jones could face an uphill battle to regain a regular role on the second unit over the second half of the season.
