Jack Coan, QB, Notre Dame
NFL Draft analysis for Jack Coan, QB, Notre Dame
Draft Scouting Report:
Rating: 71.02 (Chance to start)
Pro Comparison: Clayton Thorson
Strengths:
Ascending QB prospect who got better as he played more in college. Sudden pocket movement. Really shows the willingness to drift away from pressure in the pocket. Knows he's not going to outrun many when he vacates, so he typically stands-in. Old-school trait I like. Deep-ball accuracy/touch is good, not great. ot horrific in that area though. Methodically gets through his reads inside the pocket. No a one-read then go type. Adores the deep out from the slot. Hit it often in 2021. Overall arm strength is good, above NFL average. Springy, developing pocket passer worth taking a chance on later in the draft even though he doesn't fit today's improvisational mold.
Weaknesses:
Not a big-time athlete by any stretch. Missed some open WRs from a clean pocket down the sideline. Under pressure, he tends to make bad decisions, and his lack of freaky arm talent pops up.
Accolades:
- 2019: Honorable Mention All-Big Ten at Wisconsin
- 2019: Seventh in FBS in completion percentage (69.6%)
