A day after it was revealed that San Francisco police had questioned Michael Crabtree on Friday about an alleged sexual assault involving the 49ers receiver, his lawyer said he and Crabtree "have confidence in the process."
"On Friday, January 18, 2013, Michael Crabtree voluntarily met with the San Francisco Police Department and provided a statement," Joshua M. Bentley said, via CSN Bay Area. "Michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout the investigation. We have confidence in the process. Out of respect and integrity for the process, we have no further comment at this time."
Crabtree, 25, has been spotted in Atlanta with his teammates as they prepare for Sunday’s NFC title game, and he's expected to play against the Falcons.
The alleged incident occurred in a hotel a few hours after the 49ers beat the Packers in last week’s divisional playoff game. For now, the Special Victims Unit is investigating, and it’ll turn over the results to the district attorney’s office.
"We are aware of the allegation against Michael and understand that he has fully cooperated with authorities," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement released late Friday night. "The 49ers take such matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing. Additional requests for comment should be directed to Michael's attorney."
