Brinson breakdown: Surveying a slew of fantasy teams last night, one thing became abundantly clear to me: I am all in on Julio Jones. And I have no problem with that. Jones is prepared to absolutely explode in Dirk Koetter's offense, and I'm of the belief that taking the chains off Matt Ryan will result in a breakthrough season for the Falcons that hushes all the dumb "hasn't won a playoff game!" talk.
Seattle also will surprise in the NFC behind Russell Wilson, who's much more ready for the show than anyone wants to believe (and who won't give up his starting spot to Flynn, making him the worst free-agent addition). Buffalo's going to come out swinging in the AFC, with a 6-1 start, and work its way into the playoffs. But the Bills won't topple the Patriots, especially behind an MVP season from Brady, who has the best group of weapons on offense he's ever had. I can't figure out which division between the AFC North, AFC West and NFC South is hardest to predict. The NFC Wild Card race is going to be epic this season.
Katzowitz breakdown: Once again, the Packers will be the toast of the league, and Rodgers will prove again why he’s the best quarterback in the NFL when he leads Green Bay to its second Super Bowl title in three years. But I also expect the Texans to make the biggest leap in that organization’s history. After all, Houston has the passing game, the running game and the defense to make it happen.
But I think the Seahawks are poised to break out. Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson won’t put up the stats of Andrew Luck, but he’ll take Seattle to the playoffs in what, once again, will be a weak NFC West division (note the 49ers are my team on the decline). Much of the credit will go to Pete Carroll as well.
Wilson breakdown: As long as the Patriots have Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, they'll be favorites to win the AFC East and make a deep playoff run. And the Packers are the NFL's best team, despite a late season slide that got them bounced in the divisional round back in January. So it makes sense that these two outfits will meet up in New Orleans.
In slightly more surprising news, we think the Colts will finish second in the AFC South behind the Texans (even if it means going 8-8), while the Jets have a date with last place in their division despite Rex Ryan's proclamations that this could be his best team ever.
Of course, it's September and in a few weeks all these prognostications will be meaningless (which, frankly, isn't much different than now).
