Greatest Super Bowl performance voting: John Elway
Does back-to-back Super Bowl victories qualify John Elway for the best performance of all time?

As Peyton Manning gets ready to march into the postseason to complete an unbelievable year, let us not forget that his executive vice president of football operations, John Elway, has a pretty awesome story to tell, too. That story is what put him on our ballot for best Super Bowl performance by a quarterback.
Elway has two Lombardi Trophies to his name, but it is his final win in Super Bowl XXXIII that landed on our greatest performances list. He retired with a bang in 1999 by defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-19. Along the way, he completed 18-of-29 for 336 yards (eighth most all-time), which included one TD pass. That performance as the oldest starting quarterback to win a Super Bowl -- he was 38 -- earned him the MVP.
Most players never see one Super Bowl in their career, but to win two Super Bowls back-to-back was a feat that only a few quarterbacks have done in NFL history.
- Bart Starr 1966-67
- Terry Bradshaw 1974-75 and 78-79
- Bob Griese f 1972-73
- Joe Montana 1988-89
- Troy Aikman 1992-93
- John Elway 1997-98
- Tom Brady 2003-04
“This game was the ultimate way for John Elway to retire -- two consecutive Super Bowl victories and the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII,” Dan Marino said.
