The Rams have claimed former Lions receiver Titus Young off waivers, CBSSports.com's Jason LaCanfora reported. Young was cut by the Lions on Monday, after what can only be described as a bizarre offseason.
No backup receiver has been in the recent NFL news cycle more than Young.
Young went on a peculiar Twitter tirade on Jan. 22, when he claimed not to be selfish, but in the very same tweet, said that he didn't want to play any more if he wasn't going to get the football. Young has since deleted the tweets, so you'll have to click through to this link to see them.
Three days after his initial tirade, Young continued his Twitter diatribe by daring Detroit to cut him, "Oh I'm not done, if y'all going to cut me let me go. I'm tired of the threats," Young tweeted.
The Lions obviously took Young's dare seriously, which became apparent when they cut him on Monday.
Young's woes didn't start in the offseason though, but in the middle of the season. The Lions deactivated him for their Week-12 game against Houston because the week before against Green Bay, he "purposely lined up in the wrong spot on the field multiple times," according to the Detroit Free-Press.
Although the Rams are taking a chance on the troubled receiver, Young is talented. He may not be better than Lions star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, as he recently claimed, but he does have the potential to provide an extra weapon for St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford.
Despite playing in only 10 games for the Lions in 2012, Young finished with 33 catches for 383 yards and four touchdowns. Projected for 16 games, that would be 53 catches for 613 yards and six touchdowns.
Chris Givens led the Rams in receiving yardage in 2012 with 698 yards, and Danny Amendola led the team in receiving touchdowns with five. But Amendola was limited to 11 games after dislocating his clavicle in Week 5.
