During the Rams' victory on Thursday night vs. the Cardinals, receiver Danny Amendola had to leave the game with an injured clavicle. But the thought afterward was the injury wasn't serious enough to end his season.

According to Jay Glazer on Fox NFL Sunday, though, it could have been much worse for Amendola. In fact, Glazer reported the injury could have been life-threatening.

According to Glazer, when Amendola's clavicle was dislocated, instead of it popping out away from his body, it actually popped inward toward his heart and his trachea. Glazer talked to trainers and doctors who said they usually see that kind of injury in fatal or near-fatal car accidents.

Soon after his injury, Amendola had to undergo a procedure in which doctors pulled the clavicle away from his aorta and then pushed back on it to see if it would pop out again.

The Rams' trainers reportedly called their colleagues across the league for help with treatment because it's such a rare occurrence, but Glazer said no NFL player had previously dealt with that type of issue.

“We have no case studies,” Glazer said the Rams told him. “We're not sure when he can come back.”
