Vikings tackle Phil Loadholt was picking up plenty of heat as free agency approached, but Minnesota didn't let him hit the market and reportedly locked him down on a deal.

That's according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500, who reports the Vikes upped the ante after the Chicago Bears reportedly tried to get in on the right tackle's services.

It's a big move for the Vikings, who hadn't had a great start to the free-agency period. They dealt away Percy Harvin on Monday, and though they got a first-round pick back in the process, it didn't make Adrian Peterson very happy.

On Tuesday they managed to re-sign wideout Jerome Simpson (meh) and then released cornerback Antoine Winfield, who was their top corner last year.

Losing Loadholt would've been a bad burn, particularly for a team with an offense so heavily predicated on the run.

It's a safe bet that Peterson is a much happier player today than he was yesterday.
