Robert Griffin III spars with fan in Instagram comments
Robert Griffin III made a critical mistake and decided to read the comments. And then he made a worse mistake: he engaged the commenters.
This is a critical offseason for Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. Which is precisely why we'll spend the next few minutes discussing his most recent Instagram video.
After all, what's more important than talking about RG3's dance moves to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean? Only one thing, and that's talking about Griffin's decision to engage Instagram commenters, as pointed out by ESPN.com's John Keim.
So Griffin posts a video of him driving to work while listening to Billie Jean on Instagram. Then someone decides to point out that this -- not his lack of reading progressions, not his inability to stay healthy or his complete disregard for how to slide -- is why he will never make it as a quarterback in the NFL.
"This is why you will be cut after next year in Washington," @cperezrn wrote. "Why you weren't even mentioned as the future. You are a 'QB'. Act like one."
Griffin responded to the person, who we assume has a last name of Perez and we assume is a nurse, by doing the smart thing and bludgeoning them with kindness.
"If giving back to the community and training for football at the same time is frowned upon.....then what would you say I do Sir?" Griffin wrote. "Not give back or Train? Honest Question." And then, "Oh wait...and should I not enjoy a classic song with others who Love MJ? I'm just asking for your wisdom here."
No, dear reader, this is not news, per se. But on the heels of Knicks owner Jimmy Dolan sending out vitriol-filled emails to fans, it is curious to see how players and members of sporting clubs react to fans.
Griffin reacted the right way. But ... some words of warning, RG3.
One, don't use your phone while you're driving. It's definitely illegal in Washington and it's probably illegal in Virginia as well. (Those jerks don't even allow radar detectors.)
And two, never read the comments, man! Everyone knows that.
