  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Light work in win

Schmid stopped 16 of 17 shots in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Canucks. Schmid wasn't all that busy in the contest. Pius Suter opened the scoring for the Canucks, but the Golden Knights bounced back with a third-period tally to claim the win. Schmid went 2-0-1 with five goals allowed on 90 shots over his five NHL appearances this season. Since AHL Henderson missed the minor-league playoffs, expect Schmid to stay in the NHL as extra goaltending depth during the postseason.

  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Starting Wednesday

Schmid will guard the road goal versus the Canucks on Wednesday. Schmid will get the nod in the regular-season finale, allowing Adin Hill a bit more rest before the playoffs. The 24-year-old Schmid is 1-0-1 with four goals allowed on 73 shots (.945 save percentage) over four NHL outings. He may stick with the Golden Knights for the playoffs, but the 24-year-old won't see the ice unless both Hill and Ilya Samsonov get hurt.

Schmid allowed two goals on 36 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Avalanche. Schmid put in a good performance but wasn't able to get a win out of it. He allowed both goals in the second period and then gave up the lone tally in the shootout. He's 1-0-1 with four goals allowed on 73 shots (.945 save percentage) through four outings this season. He'll continue to be on the big club's roster as long as Ilya Samsonov (upper body) is unavailable. Adin Hill should be expected to start at home Thursday versus the Kraken.

  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Gets job done in overtime

Schmid stopped 21 of 23 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Flames. The two goals Schmid allowed came 51 seconds apart but included the second intermission. He didn't falter after Matthew Coronato's equalizer and earned the win when Reilly Smith scored on a bank shot in overtime. Schmid made his first start and third appearance at the NHL level this season, and he'll be sticking around until Ilya Samsonov (upper body) is healthy enough to play. Adin Hill will likely get the start Sunday in Vancouver to close out this weekend's back-to-back set.

  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Receiving start in Calgary

Schmid will start on the road versus the Flames on Saturday, Ryan Pike of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. Schmid will get the nod over Adin Hill in the latter's hometown, though this is the first half of a back-to-back. • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Makes relief appearance

Schmid stopped two shots in the third period of Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Jets after he relieved Adin Hill. This was likely a move to get Schmid some action ahead of the Golden Knights' back-to-back over the weekend, which would indicate Ilya Samsonov (undisclosed) probably won't be ready to return. The Jets were able to put away an empty-netter after Schmid was pulled for an extra attacker, but he didn't yield a goal in his second appearance of the season. The back-to-back includes stops in Calgary on Saturday and Vancouver on Sunday, so look for Hill and Schmid to split those starts.

  • Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Lands two-year deal

Schmid signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Golden Knights on Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Schmid was traded from the Devils to the Golden Knights at the draft, but he did not receive a qualifying offer. This allowed the 24-year-old goalie to test free agency, but Vegas was able to get a deal done with him anyway. The Golden Knights also signed Ilya Samsonov on Monday to a one-year, $1.8 million deal, so it's likely Schmid will spend the bulk of 2024-25 at AHL Henderson.

  • Devils' Akira Schmid: Heads to AHL

Schmid was reassigned to AHL Utica on Saturday. Schmid served as the backup goaltender for Saturday's 4-2 loss to Carolina. • Devils' Akira Schmid: Mauled by Panthers

Schmid stopped 26 of 30 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Florida, with the Panthers' final goal getting scored into an empty net. The Devils rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, but Schmid couldn't hold the momentum and gave up the go-ahead goal less than two minutes after Timo Meier had tied it up in the second period. New Jersey's coaching switch didn't solve the team's defensive woes overnight, so whoever's between the pipes for the Devils could continue to see a large volume of high-danger chances. Schmid hasn't won a game in the NHL since Dec. 16, and over four appearances since being called back up from AHL Utica, he's given up seven goals on 74 shots (.905 save percentage.)

  • Devils' Akira Schmid: In goal Tuesday

Schmid will get the starting nod at home versus the Panthers on Tuesday, James Nicols of New Jersey Hockey Now reports. The netminding continues to be a problem for the Devils, with the club tied to multiple players for a possible move ahead of Friday's trade deadline. If New Jersey does secure goaltending help, Schmid will almost certainly be sent back to AHL Utica.
