Gustave has drawn raves from Astros manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow this spring, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chroncile reports.
"He's a viable candidate to make our team," Hinch said of Gustave, who sports a 0.00 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB ratio over four Grapefruit League innings. "He's got high-end velocity. Watching his slider develop over the course of this camp, he's got some real weapons that hitters have to deal with." While the 23-year-old right-hander has yet to see playing time above Double-A, both Hinch and Luhnow have said he could help the Astros this season. If he doesn't make the team out of spring training, he'll open 2016 with Triple-A Fresno.
