The Orioles are expected to purchase Washington's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.
With Chris Davis (oblique) likely set to hit the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, it appears the Orioles will replace him on the active roster with another lefty-hitting first baseman in Washington, who is batting .291/.344/.517 over 203 at-bats with Norfolk this season. It will be the first big-league call up for the 26-year-old, but it's unlikely he'll directly absorb Davis' everyday role. Instead, look for Washington to function as a backup to Trey Mancini or Mark Trumbo at first base, with Hyun Soo Kim and Joey Rickard likely to take on increased reps in the outfield.
