Chirinos (oblique) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
Chirinos will be making his spring and Orioles debuts Monday after he had been eased along to begin camp while coming off a left oblique injury that kept him sidelined for the final week of the 2021 campaign. The 37-year-old has served mainly as a part-time backstop across stops with the Mets, Rangers and Cubs over the past two years, but he appears on track to open the 2022 season as Baltimore's likely No. 1 catcher. Don't expect Chirinos to remain atop the depth chart all season, however, as top prospect Adley Rutschman (triceps) should be ready to take over as the primary option at some point in the late spring or summer.
