Burdi was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Burdi was sent down by the Orioles in early September, and he'll land another spot on a 40-man roster heading into the offseason after he was waived by Baltimore. The right-hander made seven relief appearances with the Orioles and White Sox this year and posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 10 innings.
Burdi was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Burdi spent just over a week in the major-league bullpen but made only one appearance during his time with the Orioles. He allowed no hits and a walk while striking out one in one inning against the Royals on Monday. Burdi will head back to the minors as part of a series of moves to provide fresh arms to the bullpen.
Burdi was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. Burdi was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Aug. 18, and he recorded a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in three innings across his three appearances at Triple-A Norfolk. He posted a 6.00 ERA in nine innings across six appearances with the White Sox earlier in the season, and he should serve mainly as a low-leverage reliever with his new club.
Burdi was claimed off waivers by the Orioles and optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. Burdi was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Monday after he recorded a 7.30 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 24.2 innings across 23 relief appearances at Triple-A Charlotte this season. The 26-year-old was selected by the White Sox in the first round of the 2016 first-year player draft but failed to put things together while dealing with injuries earlier in his career. He'll attempt to generate better results at Triple-A Norfolk as part of the Orioles' 40-man roster.
The White Sox designated Burdi for assignment Monday. A 2016 first-round draft pick, Burdi once looked like a potential closer of the future for the White Sox while he was coming up through the farm system, but a series of injuries in recent years have dimmed his long-term outlook. Even though he's managed to avoid the injury bug in 2021, Burdi has been a diminished version of himself this season at Charlotte, delivering a 7.30 ERA while serving up eight home runs in 24.2 innings. The White Sox will drop him from their 40-man roster to clear a spot for right-hander Mike Wright, whose contract was selected from Charlotte ahead of Monday's series opener versus Oakland.
