Nelson scored two goals -- one on the power play -- in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Red Wings.
Nelson beat former teammate Thomas Greiss on the power play to put the Islanders ahead 3-0 in the second period, then finished off a pretty passing sequence to score New York's fifth goal against Alex Nedeljkovic in the third after Greiss exited due to an upper-body injury. This performance gives Nelson 10 goals and 16 points in his last 12 games. The 30-year-old center needs one more goal to score 30 for the first time in his career, and the way things are going, Nelson likely won't take long to get it.
