Angels first baseman Albert Pujols will remain in a walking boot for three more weeks as he recovers from his foot injury, at which point he'll have a better determination of whether he'll play again this season, the Los Angeles Times reports.
According to a foot specialist, the recovery time for Pujols' injury is typically six-to-eight weeks but that some players can return in just three weeks.
"Whether it's two games out, 20 games out, if I feel good, ready to play, I'm going to be out there playing," Pujols told the Times Thursday. "I was already playing at 45% this year, so even if I feel 55% then, I can come back and play."
Pujols will not require surgery to repair his plantar fascia after tearing it last week.
"My body heals very well, so I'm praying to God and having faith and hopefully that happens," Pujols said. "Hopefully I'll be out there on the field before you know it."
Pujols is expected to play more first base when he returns after making roughly two-thirds of his appearances as the team's designated hitter.
