Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez recorded his first complete game of the season and managed a shutout of the Mets in the process in New York Monday night.
Gonzalez flirted with a no-hitter until a leadoff single in the seventh inning. In the end, he improved to 10-6 on the season with a 3.31 ERA. He allowed just one hit over nine shutout frames on 110 pitches. Gonzalez walked two batters and struck out eight.
The 27-year-old is rolling right now with wins in three straight outings. He's given up just one run on nine hits over that span of 21 2/3 innings with 22 strikeouts. Gonzalez makes his next scheduled starting appearance on Saturday at home against Philadelphia.
