Twins closer Glen Perkins buys into sabermetrics, but admitted he's very happy with the way the team's bullpen is constructed, according to the Star Tribune.
Perkins said that while he likes sabermetric principles, he does think that only certain pitchers have the fortitude to throw in the ninth inning. He also said he was happy being in the bullpen, admitting he didn't have the focus to succeed as a starter. "I didn’t have the mind-set to go out there inning after inning and keep that focus. I can focus for three outs, or four or five," Perkins said.
Perkins has a 2.55 ERA through 24 2/3 innings this year. He's saved 15 games for the Twins.
