Rays DFA Robinson Chirinos

The Rays designated catcher Robinson Chirinos for assignment Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster, the Tampa Bay Times reports. 

The 29-year-old Chirinos hit .222 this spring over nine at-bats. He last played in the majors in 2011 with Tampa Bay and hit .218 over 55 at-bats that year.
