Sunday games are going to feel a lot like 1983 at U.S. Cellular Field this coming season. The White Sox will honor the 30th anniversary of the "Winning Ugly" team at every Sunday home game by wearing retro red, navy and white pullover jerseys with SOX printed across the chest.

“The 1983 White Sox remain a team that is near and dear to an entire generation of Chicago sports fans,” said Brooks Boyer, the team's senior vice president of sales and marketing, in a statement. “This season marks the 30-year anniversary of that Winning Ugly Sox team, and we plan to honor that fan favorite team with these special throwback uniforms and a 1983 version of the ‘retro racers’ that we first unveiled last season.”

The "retro race" Boyer mentioned will take place during the seventh-inning stretch and will feature the likenesses of Harold Baines, Ron Kittle and Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk, all members of the 1983 squad.

That gritty White Sox team was managed by Tony La Russa, and they won the AL West with a 99-63 record before losing to the Orioles in the ALCS. It was the franchise's first postseason appearance since losing the 1959 World Series to the Dodgers. The White Sox held a similar promotion last year that was a smashing success, honoring the 1972 team with retro uniforms and another retro race.
