Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Bound for injured list
The Reds will place Suarez on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a low-grade oblique strain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
The Reds initially announced that Suarez was dealing with mid-back pain when they scratched him from the lineup ahead of Friday's game. Further evaluation revealed that the 34-year-old infielder suffered an oblique injury and will have to spend time on the injured list because of it. The team hasn't yet provided a return timeline for him, but because his injury is labeled as "low-grade," he may not need to spend much more than the minimum 10 days on the shelf. In the meantime, Nathaniel Lowe figures to step in as Cincinnati's primary designated hitter against right-handers.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Scratched with back injury
Suarez was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers due to mid-back pain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
It's unclear how severe Suarez's injury is, but it will prevent him from serving as Cincinnati's designated hitter in Friday's series opener. Nathaniel Lowe will replace him in the starting nine and bat sixth.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Powers offense Friday
Suarez went 2-for-4 with a two-run double during the Reds' 2-1 win over the Twins on Friday.
Suarez laced a two-run double to center field in the fourth inning, providing the decisive runs in Cincinnati's win. Two of the 34-year-old slugger's five multi-hit games on the year have come over his last three outings. Since April 1, Suarez has gone 14-for-49 (.286) with seven walks, two home runs and seven RBI.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Snaps homer drought
Suarez went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Giants.
Suarez took Tyler Mahle deep in the first inning. It was the first home run in 12 games for Suarez, who had just two RBI during his homer drought. Batting in the middle of the order behind Elly De La Cruz (.363 OBP) and Sal Stewart (.434), both of whom cleared the bases with their own home runs Wednesday, should result in plenty of RBI opportunities for Suarez, who has driven in nine runs over 18 games.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Launches game-winning homer Sunday
Suarez went 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox.
With the Reds trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Suarez put them ahead for good with a 431-foot blast off Greg Weissert. It was the 34-year-old's first homer since returning to Great American Ball Park, where he's now gone deep 102 times in his career. He's topped the 30-homer mark six times since his first full season in 2016, including three during his previous stint with Cincinnati, and should remain one of baseball's top power sources.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Could move in batting order
Suarez was slotted fifth in the batting order in the two games since he returned from the World Baseball Classic, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Since Suarez was signed by Cincinnati at the beginning of February, the general consensus was that he'd bat fourth, and that's where he was in four of his first five Cactus League games before departing for the WBC. Reds manager Terry Francona explained the batting-order experiment, indicating the reconfigured lineup (with Sal Stewart batting cleanup) might generate more RBI opportunities for Suarez. However it shakes out, Suarez will be a middle-of-the-order bat for the Reds in 2026.

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Belts first spring homer
Suarez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's spring game against the Royals.
Suarez's homer immediately followed one hit by Elly De La Cruz in the fifth inning. The two hits were the first in three Cactus League outings for Suarez, who is 2-for-9 thus far. He's served twice at third base and once at DH. In preparation for his upcoming role for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, Suarez is expected to get a few more starts at the hot corner over the next week, but he will toggle between DH and first base during the regular season while Ke'Bryan Hayes operates as the everyday third baseman.
