Dominguez (1-2) took the loss and a blown save Wednesday against the Rays, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk in one-third of an inning. He struck out one.
The White Sox were nursing a 3-2 advantage in the ninth inning, and Dominguez was unable to preserve the lead and blew his second save of the year. The right-hander had a hard time putting the Rays away, managing a lone out despite throwing 32 pitches, with the performance ending a stretch of four straight outings without giving up an earned run. Chicago may not have much competition for save chances in its bullpen, but Dominguez is off to a rough start to 2026 while logging a 7.50 ERA, 1.83 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB through his first six frames.

White Sox's Seranthony Dominguez: Closes out KC
Dominguez earned the save Sunday against the Royals, allowing no runs on no hits and one walk while striking out two in the ninth inning.
Dominguez was the last of nine pitchers to take the mound for the White Sox, and he needed 15 pitches to snag a couple of strikeouts and finish off the game. It was the 31-year-old's third save of the season in four tries while serving as the team's undisputed top ninth-inning option. Dominguez recorded a save against the Royals on Thursday, issuing one walk and striking out two batters over one scoreless and hitless inning.
Dominguez entered in the ninth frame with Chicago up 2-0. He issued a leadoff walk to bring the tying run to the plate but then retired the next three batters in order, including the final two by strikeout. Dominguez has converted two of three save chances this season and is currently the clear top ninth-inning option for the White Sox.

Dominguez entered the game with the score tied and two outs in the ninth inning, and he was able to strike out Kazuma Okamoto to strand a runner at second. He then stayed in the game for the 10th frame, with the only run allowed coming due to a throwing error by Miguel Vargas. This was a needed showing from Dominguez, as he hadn't made an appearance since blowing a save chance and recording only one out Sunday against the Brewers.

The White Sox found themselves in trouble after loading the bases in the eighth inning, which prompted the team to bring in Dominguez to protect a three-run lead. He got the first batter he faced to pop out and was one out away from getting out of the frame unscathed. However, he proceeded to give up a two-run single to Luis Rengifo before yielding a three-run homer to Christian Yelich. It was a tough situation to get out of, but the White Sox signed Dominguez to a two-year, $20 million contract this past offseason to do just that.

White Sox's Seranthony Dominguez: Confirmed as closer
Manager Will Venable officially named Dominguez as the closer for the White Sox to begin the 2026 season, James Fegan of Sox Machine reports.
Dominguez joined the White Sox on a two-year, $20 million deal in late January, which presumably lined him up to be the team's closer. Venable left no doubt during comments to the media early in spring training, clearly tabbing Dominguez for the ninth-inning role. Interestingly, Brian Bannister, the White Sox's director of pitching, credited Dominguez's introduction of a splitter for his reduced home-run rate in 2025 and believes it can carry over into 2026 due to its ability to neutralize lefty power.

White Sox's Seranthony Dominguez: Signs with ChiSox
The White Sox signed Dominguez to a two-year, $20 million contract Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
There's also a mutual option for 2028, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, and the White Sox plan to use Dominguez as their closer. The right-hander has some modest closing experience, having notched 40 saves in his career, including 11 in 2024 between the Phillies and Orioles. The 31-year-old is coming off a 2025 campaign that saw him collect a 3.16 ERA and 79:36 K:BB over 62.2 regular-season frames between the Orioles and Blue Jays. Dominguez boasts a career 27.9 percent strikeout rate, but free passes (career 10.5 percent walk rate) have been a problem. With Dominguez taking over the ninth inning, previous incumbent closer options Jordan Leasure and Grant Taylor will work earlier in games with a rotation job potentially still in Taylor's future.

Blue Jays' Seranthony Dominguez: Earns win in Game 4
Dominguez was credited with the win over the Yankees on Wednesday in Game 4 of the American League Division Series. He allowed one walk without a strikeout over 1.2 hitless and scoreless innings.
Dominguez followed Louis Varland and Mason Fluharty in a bullpen game for Toronto and ultimately earned the win, sending Toronto to the ALCS. Acquired from the Orioles at the trade deadline, Dominguez has fit in nicely with the Blue Jays. The veteran righty posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and eight holds in 21 regular-season innings after coming over from Baltimore, and he's now up to 3.1 scoreless innings this postseason.
