Royals' Jonathan India: Exits game with groin injury
India was removed from Friday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks due to right groin tightness.
India went 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored before being removed in the third inning. He'll undergo further tests and the Royals should have an update in the coming days, but the timing of the injury puts India in jeopardy of being sidelined for Opening Day. Michael Massey is nursing a low-grade calf strain, but assuming he recovers over the next couple of weeks, he would be a top candidate to start at second base if India were to miss time, though Maikel Garcia and Nick Loftin could also see some reps at the keystone.

Royals' Jonathan India: Big bop in spring win
India went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Reds.
India opened the scoring, driving a Nick Lodolo sinker over the left-field fence to lead off the bottom of the first inning. The second baseman has put together a strong showing at the dish so far in Cactus League play, going 4-for-13 with two extra-base hits, three RBI and five walks through seven appearances. India is looking to bounce back from a lackluster first season with the Royals in 2025, when he slashed .233/.323/.346 with 29 doubles, nine homers and 45 RBI across 136 games.

Royals' Jonathan India: Will stick to second base in 2026
The Royals plan to keep India at second base in 2026 rather than playing him at multiple positions, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
India played third base and left field in addition to second base in 2025, and the Royals believe all the moving around could have affected the 29-year-old's offense, as he slashed just .233/.323/.346 in his first year in Kansas City. It was a bit of a surprise that Royals brought India back for $8 million rather than non-tendering him, but they're confident he can bounce back in his walk year.

Royals' Jonathan India: Settles with Royals at $8 million
The Royals and India avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8 million contract, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
India was seen as a non-tender candidate after he slashed a disappointing .233/.323/.346 over 136 games in his first year in Kansas City, but the Royals ultimately decided to bring him back in his final year of arbitration eligibility. Slated to turn 29 next month, India played second base, third base and left field for the Royals in 2025 and could bounce around to different positions for them again in 2026.

Royals' Jonathan India: Lifts three-run homer
India went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Athletics.
India's fourth-inning blast off Mason Barnett opened the scoring, but it was all the Royals could produce. India had gone over a month without a homer, batting just .203 (13-for-64) over 21 contests between long balls while missing time due to a wrist injury in that span. He's now at a .234/.324/.347 slash line with nine homers, 45 RBI, 63 runs scored, 29 doubles and no stolen bases over 135 contests. India held a starting role for much of the season but has slipped into a timeshare with Michael Massey and Adam Frazier in September.

India isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.
Saturday marks the fourth consecutive game that will begin with Michael Massey at the keystone and India on the bench. India has still appeared in two of the Royals' last three contests, though it seems his time as the regular second baseman in Kansas City has come to an end.
