Spurs Jesus foils robbery and helps capture thief
Man foolishly tries to rob house of guy who wears robes with a long beard, receives unwelcome surprise.
So there's this dude that goes to Spurs games dressed as Jesus Christ. Spurs Jesus is a popular fixture at games. It was pretty weird seeing Jesus, dressed in robes, courtside next to the celebrities at NBA Finals games, but it's also really cool.
And as a neat bonus, it turns out Jesus can handle his own against home intruders as well. The San Antonio Express News (paywall) reports that Jesus (real name Cordero Maldonado) foiled a robbery at his home this week. From Mashable.com:
Spurs Jesus told the paper he saw Medina outside the second story of his house trying to pry open a window. When Medina saw Spurs Jesus, he ran. Spurs Jesus chased him along the River Walk (just to officially make this story peak San Antonio), where he pushed him to the ground.
Then, according to the paper, which accessed a San Antonio police report of the incident, Medina broke free and swam across the San Antonio River. But our would-be robber realized he'd made a critical mistake, apparently leaving his bike back on the other side of the river, where Spurs Jesus was.
Medina told Spurs Jesus he needed his bike back, according to the paper, and walked across a bridge, apparently thinking Spurs Jesus would simply give him his bike.
“The whole time I’m on the phone with police as he is walking toward me,” Spurs Jesus told the Express-News. “I told 911 he was standing right there, and I would hold him down until they arrived.”
Spurs Jesus then tackled Medina and tried to subdue him, according to the paper. Medina was able to squirm away just as police arrived, reportedly jumping into the river a second time and attempting to hide from officers in a patch of tall grass. No dice — the officers found and arrested him.
"So sleep easy Southtown San Antonio & King William," Spurs Jesus wrote on his Facebook page, "there's a few less thieves on the streets!"

When the guys in jail ask that dude about how he got caught, he's going to want to lie. "Jesus tracked me down and held me down until the cops show up" is not a great story that makes you look tough.
The good news is, his captor probably forgives the thief for trying to rob his house. Amen.
