Minutes after shipping embattled guard Goran Dragic to Miami before Thursday's deadline, the Suns traded Isaiah Thomas to the Celtics for guard Marcus Thornton and a 2016 first-round pick acquired from the Cleveland, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. The Celtics announced the deal Thursday night.

Thomas, 26, averaged career-highs of 20.3 points and 6.3 assists last season for the Kings before he finalized a sign-and-trade to the Suns in the offseason. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound point guard is in the first year of a four-year contract that pays him $27.5 million over the duration of the deal. He averaged 15.2 points and 3.7 assists in 46 games in his first season in Phoenix. He shot 42.6 percent from the field, and 39.1 percent from downtown before the trade.

"Isaiah is a dynamic offensive player whose scoring and playmaking abilities add to an already well-rounded backcourt with Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley," Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. "We are excited to welcome Isaiah to the Celtics family."

Thornton averaged 8.9 points through 39 games with the Celtics.
