Browns release Dwayne Bowe after paying $9 million for five catches
Say goodbye to the Dwayne Bowe era in Cleveland.

The Dwayne Bowe era in Cleveland is officially over. It ended at 3:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, when the Browns sent out a Tweet to announce the roster move.
I repeat: The Dwayne Bowe era in Cleveland has officially met its end. And the only memories that exist are five catches and 53 yards -- well, that and $9 million dollars.
Yep, it's true. The Browns signed Bowe last year to a contract that included $9 million in guaranteed money. In return, Bowe played in seven games. He caught five passes for 53 yards in those seven games.
So, just to be clear, the Browns ...
-
paid $9 million for five catches
-
paid $9 million for 53 yards
-
paid $9 million for seven games
Or, you can break it out down like this:
#Browns paid Dwayne Bowe $9 million or $1.2857M per game (7), $1.8M per catch (5), $692,308 per target (13) & $169,811 per yard (53)

The Browns are on the hook for some money this year. He'll count for $4.6 million against this year's cap.
When #Browns cut WR Dwayne Bowe they have to cut a check for $2.85M of $6.15M he was scheduled to make in '16; $4.6M cap hit, $3.4M savings

Oh, and by the way ...
As compensation for last season, Dwayne Bowe made $9 million; Tom Brady made $8 million.

So, obviously, it's tough to see Bowe earning anything other than the minimum next season. And that's only if another team even gives him a chance to make a roster this summer. That opportunity might not come given just how far Bowe has fallen since his 15-touchdown season in 2010.
As for the Browns, this move hardly impacts the team. They still need receivers, but that has nothing to do with Bowe's release, as Bowe did next to nothing in Cleveland.
