DeMarcus Ware on Romo contract: 'Put up or shut up'
DeMarcus Ware was blunt when asked about Tony Romo's $108 million contract extension and the team's offseason moves in general. After saying "it's put up or shut up" for Romo, Ware added he believes Romo "is going to be the quarterback that is going to take us to the next level."

Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware, asked about Tony Romo’s $108 million contract extension, said “it’s put up or shut up” for the soon-to-be 33-year-old quarterback.
“I feel like everybody is deserving to whatever is given to him, but at the end of the day, to me it’s put up or shut up,” Ware said Thursday on Sirius XM's NFL Radio, via the Dallas Morning News. “I’m just being straight-up honest with you. Get out there and be productive, and that’s with any player. Whatever they get, they’re deserving of it.
“You just got to get out there and play and I know he can be and will be the quarterback that is going to be the quarterback that is going to take us to the next level.”
In seven seasons as the starter in Dallas, Romo has thrown 177 touchdowns and 91 interceptions while leading the Cowboys to one playoff win. His six-year extension includes at least $40 million guaranteed.
Ware, a four-time, first-team All-Pro, also was blunt when asked about the Cowboys’ cap-strapped offseason. Dallas wasn’t in the mix for other teams’ high-profile free agents.
“Me being a player, you can’t always be satisfied with anything,” said Ware, who's moving from outside linebacker to defensive end in Dallas' new scheme. “I feel like there’s always room for improvement, wherever it is, but at the end of the day, when it’s time to work it’s time to work. And you’ve got to work with what you’ve got.”
