Panthers special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven is taking a medical leave of absence for health concerns, the team announced Tuesday.

DeHaven has been with Carolina since 2013 and been a special teams coach in the league for the last 28 seasons.

"Our thoughts are with Bruce and his family, and we wish him a quick recovery," coach Ron Rivera said. "Out of respect for Bruce and his family's privacy, no additional information will be disclosed."

Russ Purnell will assume DeHaven's duties until he is able to return.
