Something you never thought you'd see happened on Sunday afternoon in Denver, as Peyton Manning was benched by the Broncos in favor of Brock Osweiler.

Manning's day started off poorly with an interception on his first drive. Then it got much better as Manning broke the record for most passing yards of all time.

Then it got real bad, with Manning throwing a total of four interceptions and completing just five passes. Just a brutal day

Halfway through the third quarter Gary Kubiak decided to pull Manning for the day, inserting Osweiler in at quarterback with the Broncos trailing 22-0.

There was no injury for Manning, per Jamie Erdahl of CBS Sports.

Osweiler, the backup drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft hadn't ever seen any real action with Manning largely being a reliable, healthy, statistically-productive option.

Manning's had a bad year, however, and Kubiak decided a change might help things. It's doubtful this is a permanent move -- the Patriots did something similar (against the Chiefs no less) with Tom Brady and Jimmy Garropolo in 2014.

Denver would love the same season-end result.

Osweiler ultimately didn't look that much better than Manning, going 14 for 24 for 146 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He did manage two scoring drives in garbage time, however, with the Broncos scoring a pair of touchdowns in a 29-13 loss.

He also stood behind Manning following the game.

"Right now Peyton's our quarterback," Osweiler. "We all stand 100 percent behind him."
