Jared Bernhardt: Officially let go
Bernhardt was waived from the reserve/retired list by the Falcons on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Bernhardt appeared in two games for the Falcons in 2022 and saw nine snaps on offense. The Ferris State product finished that campaign on IR after suffering a groin injury, then decided to hang up his cleats in May 2023. Now a free agent, it's unclear if the 26-year-old may decide try and make a comeback or if he'll remain retired after a short NFL career.

Falcons' Jared Bernhardt: Placed on reserve/retired list
Bernhardt (groin) was placed on the reserve/retired list by the Falcons on Monday, Tori McElhaney of the team's official site reports.
Bernhardt is set to retire from the NFL ahead of the 2023 campaign, but because his contract isn't up yet, he's been placed on the reserve/retired list. This move allows the Falcons to retain the rights to the wide receiver until his contract runs out. Bernhardt appeared in two games with Atlanta in 2022, failing to garner a target over nine offensive snaps.

Bernhardt will now have a shot to return to the field before the end of the season, potentially returning to practice as soon as Wednesday's session. The wide receiver has been out since late October while nursing a groin issue and he's only played nine total offensive snaps on the campaign.

Falcons' Jared Bernhardt: Makes initial 53-man roster
Bernhardt made the Falcons' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, Jeff Schultz of The Athletic reports.
Bernhardt caught five of seven targets for 102 yards and a touchdown across three preseason games and parlayed his strong play into a spot on the Falcons' initial 53-man roster. The highlight of his preseason came in Atlanta's first exhibition game, when he caught a game-winning, 21-yard touchdown on fourth down late in the fourth quarter. The undrafted rookie wideout was a star lacrosse player at Maryland before transferring to Ferris State to play quarterback. After excelling as a dual-threat weapon, the 6-foot-1 athlete tried out for Atlanta as a wide receiver. While the long shot made the roster, he'll likely have to carve out a role on special teams before he garners any offensive snaps.
